cocktails

I was going to write this blog post sooner but I've only just been over the brutal hangover long enough to stomach it.

So, Saturday night Joe came over armed with his cocktail making book that he got for his birthday.
It all seemed like a very good and civilised idea at the time, cocktail making is like an art and if you can make epic cocktails you become like some kind of invincible drinking god.
The following is how we pictured the night would go:

Joe arrived at the house at 7 o'clock after Katie had forty winks ready for the evening ahead.
They set off to Waitrose to purchase the necessary beverages, returning home with all the ingredients for all the cocktails.
Louise joined them; she thought a night of cocktail making would be most spiffing. The cocktail mixer was very easy to get out of the kitchen cupboard so there was no fuss at all. And the blender had no trouble at all crushing the ice they had bought.
After very efficient preparation it was time to make some cocktails. Of course, they had all the components of all the cocktails in the book so there was no trouble finding a delicious combination.
"what what old bean this is delicious!" exclaimed Louise.
"oh, I quite agree!" said Joe
"simply marvellous!" added Katie.
The trio drank very responsibly and learnt all there is to know about the art of cocktail making.

Here's how it really went:

Joe turned up about 7 and I felt kinda groggy cause I'd just had a nap. We wandered off to Waitrose to get the stuff, then spent ages deciding what to buy because we had done absolutely no prior reading.
We settled on a big bottle of vodka and a selection of soft drinks. The rest would be down to the extensive (but wholly inadequate) array of alcohols we had at home.
We got home with the drinks and set to work. Louise joined it cause she likes the booze.
I had to empty out the whole kitchen cupboard to find all the bits for the cocktail shaker but now at least I know where they are. And the ice took ages to crush cause the blender will only do a tiny bit at a time. After a lengthy preparation and more water than crushed ice, we were ready to go.
We discovered after a long time reading through the cocktail books that we could only really make a Sea Breeze with the stuff we had to hand. So that's what we did, and it was very nice.

At this point we realised that the whole evening would probably benefit from another trip to the shop, so we went to the shop at the end of the road for more supplies. We returned with crisps, ginger ale, lemon juice and pineapple juice.
This meant we could make a white lady, which I think is where this whole evening too a turn down pissed street. A white lady is basically just some gin, some cointreau and some lemon juice. It was not as nice as the Sea Breeze

Then followed swiftly a Pimms cocktail

I started forgetting to take the pictures before we drank the drinks.
Next was a Moscow Mule

Then Smudge wanted to join in but he is a cat so we said no

Here is a picture of our selection....

Louise is some kind of moose. In the background is the rolling pin we originally tried to use to crush the ice.

And our final drink, which I think was a screwdriver but I was too tipsy to write it down

We headed off to the Dungeon to see its nice new interior. However I came closer to christening it than anything else so we swiftly went home to vom.

Quite the civilised evening we imagined.

I felt a bit sick writing that blog so you better have loved it.
